Garage Door Panel Replacement
Your garage door panels are what everyone sees when they come to visit or even just drive past your home. Over the time they take a real beating from the heat of the sun and winter rains and from the occasional stray football, baseball, basketball or car bumper. A coat of fresh paint will take care of minor cosmetic damage but scrapes, dings, dents and cracks may require replacing one or more door panels.
In a perfect world, you could just replace the damaged panel(s) with exact copies sent straight from the factory. If the door is new, or near-new, this should be no problem. However, garage doors on older houses can be a problem; the specific pattern might no longer be available. If the exact garage door panels you have aren't available anymore, we can try to locate a close match in hopes of keeping the cost down, but we really don't recommend this as a fix.
Most of the time, if a precise match can't be found to replace a damaged panel, and the homeowner sees the value of the home as an investment, the smart move is to replace all the old panels with new ones. If the damage to the panels was the result of and accident or a severe storm, the homeowner's insurance may cover some or all of the cost. The result is an overhead door that has a new, fresh look that will last for decades to come. Often it's possible to keep most, if not all, of the original hardware and fittings, giving the homeowner the look of a brand-new garage door for just the cost of the panels plus installation.
If the full set of panels is going to be replaced, that's the time to decide if the new panels should be made from metal or fiberglass, if they should have insulation and whether or not they should have windows. Insulation can make a real difference in the way the garage feels and the windows will let in plenty of light during the day, especially if the garage is also used a workspace for hobbies.
